He had GERD or Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disorder (Uncontrollable spitting of Milk after feeding), that the discharging doctor gave him Prevacid, and for his Apnea (Not breathing) and Bradycardia (Low Heart Rate) Episodes the doctor started him to take Caffeine 5 days prior his discharge with an Apnea Monitor to continue at home, and an Iron Multivitamin for his Anemia.
October 10, 2009,Saturday : Mommy Je-ann noticed Mico was getting red and stiff, and bending his elbows inward his chest, and his pupils are getting bigger, it was like an attack that lasted for 15-20 seconds following a loud cry which we thought it was a reflux pain.
Gradually, mommy Je-ann and daddy Mike noticed it was becoming more pronounced and and frequent, that she had to record in a clip and showed to his PCP or Primary Care Physician (Pediatrician) his looks whenever he has those attacks. Mommy Je-ann already started thinking that it may be a seizure attack. So she called the doctor to let her know. When the PCP saw the clip she was not disturbed and advised us that mommy Je-ann can wait and observe that if it gets more frequent call the clinic again. Mommy Je-ann asked the PCP if it happens more over the weekend should he be brought to Emergency, and her answer is "NO, you can still wait because the EEG will be closed and only weekdays it will be open..."
The head ultrasound conducted was smooth, the Radiologist immediately told us that the result is free from bleeding nor clot.
Eventully, the 2nd procedure was disappointing because mommy Je-ann thought that although she worked before in the said facility, she noticed that people who took the EEG were incompetent to handle him, since he's a very infant. If mommy Je-ann could recall, the EEG Technologist said that she had to teach their young doctor on how to read the result. Mico also spit-up some of his milk during the procedure, the EEG Tech did not even help Mommy Je-ann to clean him since that Lady knew already that maybe a mom like her had a hard time cleaning him knowing the fact that he had some electrodes on his head that would be hard to take-off his shirt over his head, so Mommy Je-ann just decided to cut his shirt. Lastly, the way how this Lady approached mommy Je-ann was absurd, she even had to argue with a mom's patient on how to handle him, where she knew that she never thought mommy Je-ann the proper way of holding Mico during procedure. Whew! that must be a headache for the mom! But, instead Mommy Je-ann just stayed quiet and wait for the result.
The result came back a week after, it showed epileptiform activity, thus the PCP decided to have a second opinion at Texas Children's Hospital (Which Mommy Je-ann suggested this already before to his PCP, but she did NOT listen). So, mommy Je-ann called TCH, and looked for a schedule for him and eventully got a schedule on 11/10/2009. Mommy Je-ann was suddened because from what the PCP was describing, it would take several weeks to have an EEG schedule at TCH, BUT she her self booked 5 days away from the appointment date. Hmmm....something must be wrong going now with this Doctor...
Let's see first how things happened in TCH.
November 10, 2009- Tuesday, EEG done @ West Tower of Texas Children's Hospital 21st floor. Here how Mico looked like:
He really received the right care, the technologists and doctors helped Mico and Mommy Je-ann deal with the procedure. He spit-up again, but they managed it well in there. With TCH, two-thumbs up!!!
Dr. Anderson, the Radiologist-Epileptogist adviced that Mico needs to go to Emergency Center on the same day due to really abnormal finding from his EEG. Mommy Je-ann agreed with the plan. They went down to E.C. of TCH. For 5 hours that they were there, Dr. Wilfong head of Epileptologist in TCH discussed about Mico's condition and asked why it took a while for him be brought to Emergency for the seizure. The mom explained to doctor about the issue with PCP as previously stated. So, what the only thing to do now is pray that his exams will be negative. Dr. Wilfong wanted Mico be admitted for several days due to needed work-ups, he said that Mico's condition is serious, he is suffering from Tonic-Myoclonic Seizure that of all kinds of Seizures, this type is the hardest to manage. He was pessimistic about his condition, but we know that only God knows what is the best plan in this world. And, we know that he will be healed, because Mommy Je-ann and Daddy Mike keeps on praying and they already offered him to the Lord!
This was at Mico's Room in Texas Children's Hospital.
Mico was admitted for 4 days and was Discharged immediately because no further exams needed, his MRI and MRSpectroscopy, were negative.
We will be waiting for 7 more blood Tests results, and his Spinal fluid results for Genetic and Metabolic tests after 3 weeks . Which would fall on December 07,2009.
So, we'll keep you posted!
We believe that Prayers really help, that he will be healed and all exams will be completely negative, Mico will be a Miracle ground just like what happened to Mommy Je-ann 15 years ago. AMEN!
